‘We are coming out….’ – Suryakumar Yadav on losing 2nd T-20 match against South Africa

South Africa and India faced off each other for the 2nd T20I of India’s tour of South Africa 2023 at the St George’s Park, Gqeberha on 12 December. The game was interrupted by rain and South Africa won the match by five wickets by DLS as the Indian squad scored 180 runs in 19.3 overs.

South Africa was given the same target to chase the score in 15 overs to win the match. South Africa scored 154 runs in 13.5 overs but the game was once again interrupted by rain. South Africa was later announced as winners as per DLS. India team’s captain Suryakumar Yadav discussed how the squad were trying to come out of their comfort zone.

In the post match ceremony, after losing the second T20I match to South Africa, India team’s captain Suryakumar Yadav said, “At the halfway stage, I thought it was a par score but they batted beautifully in the first 5-6 overs and took the game away from us. It was the brand of cricket we were talking about, just go out and express ourselves. It was tough with the wet ball, but we would face similar situations in the future and it’s a good learning for us. Looking forward to the third T20I.”

Aiden Markram on South Africa winning the 2nd T20 against India

The South African captain Aiden Markram said, “A bit bleak about Durban, it was disappointing. Great crowd in today and it’s nice to put in a performance in front of them. It was on the slower side. But after the rain came in, it quickened up. Sometimes you try too much in T20 cricket, if a match up works you go with him. But, you don’t want to keep him for too long as the batter lines him up.”

While talking about Reeza Hendricks, he said  “He has been fantastic, super happy for him, he has adopted a bit of leadership role with the batting. Another brilliant knock from him tonight. You gotta pick form players going into the world cup. There might still be a couple of places up for grabs. Every player is working hard and giving his best. The healthy competition means a lot for us.”
