‘Well said sir’ – Fans react as Wasim Akram critisize Shaheen Afridi for missing Test Match for T20I
Former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram recently took a huge dig at the team’s ace bowler and vice-captain Shaheen Shah Afridi as he opted out of the last Test match against Australia as a precaution to prepare well for the upcoming T-20 World Cup 2024. Akram criticized him for prioritizing T20 cricket over Test cricket which is the true essence of the sport.
Akram openly admitted that nobody cares about the T20 format in the sport, but Cricket boards that prioritize money and entertainment through franchise Cricket are the ones who give utmost importance to it. After Akram, Waqar Younis gave similar statements and criticised Shaheen Afridi for his poor decision.
Wasim Akram and Waqar Younis on Afridi prioritizing T20 over Test
Akram recently spoke to Fox Cricket and said, “Straight after this [Sydney Test] there are five T20s in New Zealand, and Shaheen’s the captain. But in T20 cricket, who cares? I understand it’s there for entertainment and it’s there for financial gain for cricket boards, for players, but cricketers should know that Test cricket is the ultimate. ”
“If we talk about what happened 20 years ago in this Test in Sydney, nobody knows what happened last night in the T20. That’s the difference. These guys have to understand and learn if you want to be great at the game or do you want to be a millionaire. You can become both but with a little more sense,” he added.
Waqar Younis agreed to Wasim Akram’s statement and said, “We play Test match cricket. We don’t play for T20s or one-day cricket. And if you’re missing Test match cricket purely because you are being rested, I do not understand. That’s a real shocker for me because I was expecting him to be a part of this Test match. After all, he looked good in the previous match.
“He started feeling like the old Shaheen Afridi and started to swing the ball and the pace was getting better. I played two games, and a lot of overs to be honest. They’re just managing my workload, the medical team and team management decided to take a rest for this (Test),” Younis said.
Look how the fans reacted –
Test cricket should be above other formats all time. But Shaheen isn't a test bowler anymore, his fitness is not allowing him to play longer formats. He is just 23 years old young and can't play all matches of three match test series?? He is now only T20 bowler… pic.twitter.com/GFmHdhLBE2

The old folks are getting emotional about the state of test cricket but should understand that only the fittest can survive the "test" of time!
Changes are inevitable in life. you can lament/vent about it. it is what it is.
