After kicking off this year’s Asia Cup with a hard-fought win over Pakistan, India took on Hong Kong on 31 August 2022. Coming to the match, India was looking to seal their berth in the super four by winning match. On the other hand, Hong Kong was coming off after winning the qualifiers in some style.
Therefore, the stage was set for both teams in Dubai. Rohit Sharma failed to win the toss and then India was asked to bat first. However, India made one change in playing XI. They rested Hardik Pandya. In place of him, they brought back Rishabh Pant in the final lineup.

Speaking of the match, Rohit Sharma came out to open the innings with KL Rahul. They both started well. But, Rohit Sharma lost his wicket for 21 runs off 13 balls. Then, Virat Kohli came out to bat. KL Rahul scored 36 runs off 39 balls. But, Suryakumar Yadav played a fantastic unbeaten knock of 68 runs off 26 balls only. He hit six fours and six wickets. Virat also remained not out on 59 runs off 44 balls only. Suryakumar Yadav scored at a strike rate of 261.53. On the other hand, Kohli scored those runs at a strike rate of 134.09. Their 98-run partnership ensured that India put up a score of 192 runs by losing two wickets only in 20 overs.
In response, Hong Kong batters started brilliantly. They scored 51 runs in six overs by losing two wickets. Veteran batter Babar Hayat scored 41 runs off 35 balls. But, in the middle overs, Indian spinners did not give any easy runs to them. Hence, Hong Kong batters got derailed from the chase totally. In 17 overs, they managed only 116 runs by losing four wickets. Finally, they scored 152 runs by losing five wickets in 20 overs. India won the match by 40 runs. This win ensured India’s berth in the super four of the Asia Cup 2022.
