WPL 2024: 3 Young Indian Players to watch out for
The Women’s T20 challenge was the first major women’s Twenty20 competition ever in India. It started in the year 2018 as a single-match tournament between two teams, Trailblazers and Supernovas. Then it expanded to a three-team, the third team was Velocity. Three-match competition format extended to 2022.
After enormous popularity in men’s IPL throughout the world, in February 2022, Indian Cricket Board president Sourav Ganguly came up with a different plan. He announced the women’s version of IPL (Indian Premier League), which was replacing the Women’s T20 Challenge. Finally, in October 2022, the Indian Cricket Board announced a five-team tournament. In 2023 March first, the season of Women’s IPL had started. Matches were played in Mumbai only. Mumbai Indians won the inaugural tournament, beating Delhi by 7 wickets.
After huge popularity in the first season, there are so many expectations in the second season too. It’s a huge chance for young women cricketers throughout the country to showcase their talent. There are lots of young faces on this year too. Here is the list of three young women cricketers from India who can change the dynamic of the tournament.
3. Shreyanka Patil:
The 22-year-old right arm off break bowler from Bangalore can be the game-changer for Royal Challengers Bangalore. She had her T20I debut for India on December 6, 2023 against England. She has also played in the Caribbean Premier League for Guyana Amazon Warriors. She took 8 wickets in 6 WT20Is. She can be a game-changer for Royal Challengers Bangalore. Royal Challengers Bangalore bought her for 10 Lakhs last year. She scored 62 runs in 7 matches and took 6 wickets with an economy rate of 9.84 last season.
2. Parshavi Gaurav Chopra :
The 17-year-old Parshavi is a leg-break bowler from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh. UP Warriorz bought her for 10 lakhs base price. She started his career as a medium pacer, and later she became a break spinner. She was a part of the U19 T20 World Cup, in 2023. She took 11 wickets in 6 matches. She took 3 wickets in 4 matches in the last season of WPL too. This season Up Warriorz have lots of expectations from their young leggie.
1. Titas sadhu :
Titas Ranadeep Sadhu is a right-arm medium pacer from Chinsura, West Bengal. The 19-year-old pacer was the man of the match in the 2023 U19 T20 World Cup. She debuts in September 2024 against Bangladesh in T20Is at the Asian games. She took 8 wickets in 7 matches for India. She will play for Delhi Capitals this year and can be a potential game-changer for Delhi.
