As per the schedule drawn by the Indian Cricket Board, the second match will be played between Royal Challengers Bangalore and UP Warriorz. The five-team, 22-game caravan model will be played at only two centres – Bengaluru and Delhi – with the former hosting as many as 11 games. The rest, needless to mention, will be played in Delhi.
The Bengaluru leg will run until March 4, and the WPL bandwagon will then move to the national capital where the competition will start the very next day. In the 24-day second season, there are no doubleheaders, and all matches will start at 7:30 pm. However, on odd occasions, a team will have to play back-to-back games on consecutive days.
The WPL was originally planned to be in the home turf and away model, like the Indian Premier League (IPL) but the BCCI has been facing logistical challenges to execute the plan. The first season was played in Mumbai.
Like the Bengaluru leg, Delhi Capitals will start with a face-off between last year’s finalists – Mumbai Indians and all the games of Delhi Capital is scheduled to be played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
