Veteran England pacer Jimmy Anderson is all set to replace Ollie Robinson for the 4th Ashes Test, starting on Wednesday at Old Trafford. The hosts are already trailing in a five-match series by 1-2 and it will be a do-or-die situation for them. Anderson missed out on the third Test at Headingley where England registered a 3-wicket win against the Aussies to make a comeback in the series.

Notably, Ollie Robinson was affected by a back spasm in the Headingley Test and did not bowl a single ball in the second innings after 11 overs in the first innings. His exclusion from the team makes way for the 40-year-old to make a return to his home ground. England skipper Ben Stokes said that it would be a good chance for Anderson to get ready to charge from his end in the upcoming Test as England’s all-time leading Test wicket-taker has had one end named after him at the Old Trafford Ground.

“It’s a good chance for Jimmy to have a rest up and then get ready to charge in from the James Anderson End at Old Trafford,” Stokes was quoted as saying by SkySports.

Do-or-Die situation for England

As per the reports, it is likely that England’s practice sessions may get affected due to weather conditions ahead of the fourth Test. It began to rain at Old Trafford on Monday morning. The players would practice indoors after being forced off the field. Although Wednesday and Thursday are predicted to have improved weather, the weekend does not appear to have favourable circumstances.

The Three Lions would need to win this game in order to have a chance of taking the series in the fifth and final Test, making it an important match for them. Australia will keep the Ashes if there is a tie because they won the preceding match in Australia. The first two games were won by the visitors back-to-back at Birmingham and London, respectively, demonstrating their dominance. However, England maintained their composure to win the Headingley Test in three days and salvage the series.
