‘Ye match toh kuch zyada he close tha’ – Fans react to India winning first T20I against Ireland by 2 runs (DLS Method) after rain plays spoilsport

A 57-run partnership involving McCarthy, as well as Curtis Campher, enabled Ireland to salvage face and set up a fighting first innings total in the first match of the Ireland vs India series. Jasprit Bumrah, who was back in the lineup, claimed two wickets in the opening over of the innings, including one on a good inswinger. But after that, Ireland found some momentum as they were rebuilt with the help of the 57-run stand between Curtis Campher and McCarthy. 

McCarthy was able to play some amazing shots during the back end of the innings as he saved his nation’s face and made them reach a fighting total of 139. In this process, he was also able to register his highest career score in an international match.

India starts well but rain plays spoilsport

Ireland’s new bowlers got the ball rolling, however, Jaiswal and Gaikwad mixed caution and aggression to perfection. They played eye-catching shots and ensured that India finished well after the power play. 

It was the introduction of Craig Young immediately after the power play that saw the Indian batters in some trouble and Ireland were able to bounce back. He picked up two wickets in two balls, catching Jaiswal and Tilak. But after that, the rain came and forced the Irish players to go back to the pavilion just two runs behind India according to the DLS method.

It was a great comeback for Bumrah after an injury layoff of almost a year. Receiving the Man of the Match award during his comeback match would be an ideal start for a busy schedule ahead of him. The inswinger he played to fool Balbirnie was a thing of beauty and it just showed how much he practiced in order to get his rhythm right.
