India named their 15-man squad for the five-match T20Is against the West Indies, starting from August 3 on the Caribbean island. Star players Yashasvi Jaiswal and Tilak Varma have been called up to the India team, while Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rinku Singh were not. Tilak Verma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Mukesh Kumar were given their first T20I call-ups, but senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma were left out once again.

Rinku Singh’s absence has sparked heated controversy, and he stunned everyone with his spectacular performance in the IPL 2023 when he hit five sixes in five balls. The Men in Blue will travel to Ireland following their tour of the Caribbean Island, with matches set for August 18, 20, and 23. Rinku Singh and Ruturaj Gaikwad will be awarded for their performances in the three-match T20I series against Ireland.

Players who did well in the IPL will fly to Ireland: Indian Cricket Board

A source from the Indian Cricket Board revealed that the players who did not make the West Indies tour will be appointed to the Ireland team. The source said, “Rinku and other players who did well in the IPL will fly to Ireland as the selection committee doesn’t want to try everyone at one stage. There are seven players of the Indian ODI team who are not going to play T20 as those players are key for us going ahead as they will be playing Asia Cup in late August.”

Rinku Singh performed admirably for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the 2023 Indian Premier League (IPL). The left-handed batter was a consistent presence in the middle order and drove the club to victory, including a near-impossible performance against the Gujarat Titans (GT) in Ahmedabad. Rinku concluded the season with 474 runs in 14 games at a 149.53 strike rate.

Ruturaj Gaikwad, on the other hand, has played nine T20Is so far, with his most recent appearance being against Ireland in 2022. The right-handed batsman has not performed well in the shortest format, managing only 135 runs with a strike rate of 123.85. His outstanding performance with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL 2023 has earned him a recall to the senior side. He scored 590 runs with a strike rate of 147.50 and was instrumental in the franchise’s championship run.
