‘Yeh itne mein khush nahin hoga’ – Fans celebrate as Rohit Sharma brings his first Test hundred against Australia
India skipper Rohit Sharma has brought up a hundred against Australia in the ongoing first Test in Nagpur. His last Test hundred came in 2021 on the tour of England. In the five-match series at the time, he hit a ton in the second innings of the game. India famously won the Oval Test for the first time since the 1970s.
Not to forget, Sharma wasn’t the captain of the Indian team at the time. Early last year, he became the skipper of the side as Virat Kohli stood down. Since then, he hasn’t played too many games which might also be the reason he could score a Test hundred. However, in the ongoing game, he opened the batting with KL Rahul after the Aussies were bowled out for 177 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja took a fifer while Ravichandran Ashwin took three wickets. Meanwhile, the two-time World Championship winner for India started his innings with three boundaries in the first over of the innings. In the fifth over, Sharma hit two more fours to continue his good patch with the bat. After all, he recently had a good white-ball series against New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Meanwhile, coming back to this game, the right-hander was sure of either defending or hitting the ball towards the boundary. On the last ball of the 14th over, Sharma hit his first six of the innings. Before the end of Day One, he reached 56 not out.

On the ongoing second day of the game, Sharma kept playing his game despite the other batters going back cheaply. Apart from Rohit, no other has been able to score a fifty at the time of writing. Meanwhile, he has hit his maiden Test hundred against Australia with an inside-out shot against Nathan Lyon. At the time of writing, the 35-year-old is still batting and the team would be hoping for him to go big.
