 ‘Yeh log aus se jitenge’ – Fans react as third ODI between India Women and Bangladesh Women ends in a draw

The third and final match of the three-match ODI series between Bangladesh Women and India Women was played in Mirpur on July 22, 2023. India made a comeback in the second game while Bangladesh won the first one. So both sides and their fans were in for an exciting series decider. The final match ended in a draw as India got bundled out in 49.3 overs.

If we talk about the match, Bangladesh skipper, Nigar Sultana won the toss and opted to bat first. Shamima Sultana and Fargana Hoque both gave the home team a strong start by batting first. They both contributed to the first-wicket partnership, which was 93 runs in the 26.2 overs, they played. With five fours, Shamima scored 52 runs off 78 balls.

The second wicket partnership between Fargana and captain Nigar was for 71 runs. Fargana stole the show with 107 runs off 160 balls, including seven fours, making her the night’s standout performer. As a result, she became the first player to score a century in an ODI for Bangladesh Women. She achieved this mark in 156 balls.

India Women lost the match in the last over

In addition to her, Sobhana Mostary and Nigar Sultana both contributed to Bangladesh’s total of 225 runs for the loss of four wickets in their 50 overs with individual scores of 24 runs off 36 balls and 23* runs off 22 balls respectively. Sneh Rana and Devika Vaidya each claimed one wicket for India, who totaled 45 runs off their 10 overs of bowling.

In reply, India lost two wickets for 32 runs, but Smriti Mandhana and Harleen Deol then built up a third-wicket partnership of 107 runs. Deol scored 77 runs off 108 balls, including 9 fours, whereas Mandhana scored 59 runs off 85 balls, including five fours. However, other than them, no batter managed to score much as they faced a batting collapse.

India needed nine runs in the last two overs and had only one wicket left. Meghna Singh and Jemimah Rodrigues were on the crease. They needed three runs in the last over, and they scored two singles on the first two balls. But, on the third delivery, the wicket fell down and the game ended as a tie. Thus, the series also ended at a scoreline of 1-1
