Young cricketer Mahika Gaur makes history by representing two nations in international debut
The young cricket star Mahika Gaur recently made her second debut in international cricket for England. Previously having played international cricket for The United Arab Emirates (UAE) since the age of 12, Mahika Gaur has had a phenomenal run in cricket. Mahika made her original debut in international cricket at the age of 12 for UAE and since then she has played 19 T20I matches for the national team.
Mahika Gaur was born in England, but due to certain circumstances her family migrated to Dubai, wherein Gaur started playing international cricket after she enrolled in the academy to play professionally. After shifting back to England, Mahika Gaur has now made her official debut at the age of 18 in the T20I match of England against Sri Lanka.
Mahika got her first maiden international wicket as she dismissed Chamari Athapaththu. The English women’s cricket team captain Heather Knight congratulated Mahika Gaur for an incredible debut and the strong impact her height brought in for the team. Mahika being 6 ‘3 heighted fast bowler, needed to bowl towards the death overs, but unfortunately the game was disrupted by rain.
“Mahika was brilliant on her debut. She had to move to death bowling after the rain and she executed her plan perfectly. At that height she gets real late swing which is quite a weapon”, said Heather Knight while congratulating Mahika Gaur.
Mahika Gaur on her journey in cricket in UAE
“I was practising bowling in the garden. I think my dad was just surprised that I could roll my arm fully without chucking the ball. He was a left-arm bowler in college but never got to do his cricket thing. But when he saw that I have potential, he’s always been on board”, said Mahika Gaur.
“I was bowling loopy full tosses and she was defending them. She (Chaya Mughal) was the first person I bowled to there and I was star-struck. My dad told me she’s from the UAE national team – that was pretty cool,” added Mahika Gaur.
