Pakistan was expected to convincingly win against Zimbabwe in the Super 12 encounter of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022. After all, Pakistan and Zimbabwe have too many differences in terms of world rankings. However, the Southern African side showed that world ranking counts for none if a team can do well on the field. At the Optus Stadium in Perth, the same was witnessed by fans across the globe.

After being restricted to 130/8, the Craig Ervine-led side fought well with the ball. At a stage when the 2009 winners were looking likely to win, Sikandar Raza took three wickets to change the complexion of the game. Him picking three wickets eventually turned out to be a turning point in the game. The Red brigade won by one run, potentially kicking out Pakistan from the semis race.

Pakistan’s Prime Minister and Zimbabwe’s President engage in a banter

After the game, Zimbabwe’s president Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa took to Twitter and took a jibe at the Green Brigade. In the tweet, he congratulated his national side and then went on to ask them to send the real Mr. Bean. For the unversed, Mr.Bean’s doppelganger, Asif Muhammad has been going viral on social media. He is a comedian from Pakistan.

“What a win for Zimbabwe! Congratulations to the Chevrons. Next time, send the real Mr. Bean…#PakvsZim,” read the tweet posted on the official Twitter handle of the president of Zimbabwe.

In reply, Pakistan PM, Shehbaz Sharif said that his nation might not have the real Mr. Bean but they have the cricketing spirit. Sharif also reminded his Zimbabwean counterpart about his national side’s habit of bouncing back.

“We may not have the real Mr Bean, but we have real cricketing spirit .. and we Pakistanis have a funny habit of bouncing back:) Mr President: Congratulations. Your team played really well today,” the Pakistan Prime Minister wrote accompanied by a clap emoticon.

Pakistan is potentially out of the semis race as of now. They would now need a few results of other games to go their way apart from their remaining games.
