Pakistan and Zimbabwe locked horns in the Super 12 round of the ongoing 20-20 World Cup 2022 in Perth. Both teams were playing to register their first win in the round. Zimbabwe qualified for this round after winning two games in the first round. On the other hand, the 2009 winners started their tournament in the second round as they were seeded. Talking about the game, Zimbabwe batted first after winning the toss.

The Red Brigade started well after their openers. skipper Craig Ervine and Wessly Madhevere scored 42 runs in the first five overs. However, Pakistan bowlers made a good comeback as they picked up three wickets in the next five overs. The likes of Sean Williams and Sikandar Raza tried to stabilize the innings. They put together 31 runs but couldn’t convert it into a big one.

Vice-captain Shadab Khan and pacer Mohammad Wasim Jr. took two wickets each in the 14th and 15th over respectively. This derailed the Zimbabwean innings completely and they could only reach 130/8 at the end of the innings.

Zimbabwe registers a famous win

The Southern African side showed a great fight with the ball in hand. At a time when the former champions looked outright favorites, Zimbabwe showed why a team shouldn’t underestimate their opposition. They did the right thing by taking the wickets of skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan inside the powerplay. As the readers know, the Green Brigade has faced a middle-order collapse in the recent past.

Iftikhar Ahmed who did well against India could only score five runs. The likes of Shan Masood and Shadab Khan kept the team in the game with a 52-run partnership for the fourth wicket. However, Sikandar Raza took two back-to-back wickets in the 14th over. This proved to be a turning point combined with the wicket of Masood. After this, Zimbabwe managed to win the game by one run despite the heroics of Mohammad Wasim Jr. and Mohammad Nawaz.
