3 Reasons why West Indies’ exclusion from ODI World Cup 2023 is harmful for cricket
3. Fans will miss entertaining cricket
The non-qualification of the West Indies for the 2023 World Cup has adverse effects on the entertainment value for fans. Despite their underwhelming performance in the 2019 World Cup, the Windies still managed to produce thrilling moments that captivated spectators. From Carlos Brathwaite’s heroic near-victory against New Zealand to their extraordinary bowling display against Pakistan, the West Indies never failed to deliver excitement.
The absence of entertaining players like Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard, Nicholas Pooran, and Shimron Hetmyer, among others, leaves a void in the tournament. Their absence results in a World Cup that unfortunately lacks the same level of flair and entertainment. The tournament loses its vibrant edge, leaving fans with a slightly diminished experience.
