It was in 2019 when England faced West Indies in the third Test in St. Lucia. After losing the series, England was fighting to avoid a whitewash in that series. However, the West Indian pacer, Shannon Gabriel abused former England Test captain, Joe Root as he asked: “Do you like boys?”.
Root also responded by stating: ‘Don’t use it as an insult. There’s nothing wrong with being gay.’ Speaking about the match, Root went on to score a majestic ton and England won that match. For such abusive remarks, Gabriel was banned for four matches, though he apologised later for his action.
