England registered a record-breaking win over India as they defeated the Asian side by seven wickets at Edgbaston in Birmingham. This fifth rescheduled Test match was so pivotal for India as they were on the verge of winning a Test series on English soil. India came to Edgbaston with a lead of 2-1 over England.

However, after setting up England for a record chase of 378 runs in the fourth innings, Indian bowlers looked absolutely clueless as they failed to take wickets at a regular interval. Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root put up an unbeaten partnership of 259 runs as England completed their highest ever chase in their history of Test cricket. During this historical Test, several records were created and those have been mentioned below:

Former England Test captain, Joe Root enjoyed another fantastic series as he scored 737 runs in just nine innings of this series, at an average of 105.28. He scored four hundred and a fifty during this series.

Hence, he became the highest run-scorer in a single England vs India Test series, surpassing the previous best of India’s Virat Kohli. Kohli scored 655 runs in 2016, including two hundred and the same number of half-centuries. Joe Root also became the player of the series for England.
