As Jasprit Bumrah lost the toss, India was asked to bat first by Ben Stokes. However, the decision was working perfectly for England as India was struggling at a score of 98 runs by losing five wickets.
Then, Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja stitched a partnership of 222 runs for the sixth wicket as India managed to reach the score of 416 runs in the first innings. Rishabh Pant (203 runs) also broke the 69-year-old record of Vijay Manjrekar (161 runs) at this match for scoring the most runs in a Test match outside Asia.
