The Indian T20 League has been the stage to prove one’s worth and showcase one’s abilities over the years. The franchises have often broken banks to secure the services of some of the biggest players for their team. But not always had the players according to expectations or repaid the faith the franchise has shown in them.

Here we take a look at five players who did not perform according to expectations in the 15th edition of the Indian T20 League.

1.Rohit Sharma: Rohit Sharma has been an integral part of the Mumbai team since the time he joined the franchise. He has led the team to five Indian T20 League titles and has played an active part with the bat in their successful runs. But this year Rohit much like his team has struggled with his batting form. He has scored 268 runs in 14 innings at an average of 19.14 and a strike rate of 120.18. These numbers are pretty average coming from one of the most prolific runs scorers of the Mumbai franchise over the last few years.

2.Virat Kohli: Virat Kohli is experiencing a tough time with the bat in hand for the last couple of years. He has found it hard to score big and play impactful knocks in the last couple of seasons. Everybody expected that Kohli will revive his form in the Indian T20 League 2022 being relieved of the captaincy duties. But to the disappointment of fans and experts, his off-form continued into the tournament. He has been able to score 334 runs in the tournament at an average of 23.86 and a strike rate of 116.78. The ‘Run-Machine’ has not at all performed as per the standards he has set for himself over the year.

3. Kane Williamson: Hyderabad was hoping that their skipper of the season will form the backbone of the team’s batting. But Kane Williamson failed to leave up to the expectations of the franchise. He just scored 216 runs from 13 matches in the tournament at an average of 19.64 and a strike rate of just 93.51. The performance was not at all up to the standards he sets for himself.

4.Shardul Thakur: Shardul Thakur has been very important in Chennai’s championship run in 2021 and 2018. He has shown the uncanny knack for picking up wickets. During his stint with the national team, he also displayed his ability to score runs in important situations for the team. His performances prompted Delhi to buy him for a price of INR 10.75 Cr. But Shardul Thakur hasn’t at all performed as was expected of him. He picked up 15 wickets in 14 matches but conceded runs at a rate of 9.79 runs per over and scored runs at an average of just 15.0 in the chances he got. Thus, he failed to justify his high price tag.

5. Ruturaj Gaikwad: After his brilliant performance in the Indian T20 League 2021, Chennai was hoping for similar antics from the batter in the 15th But after a 600+runs season, Gaikwad scored just 368 runs in the tournament at an average of 26.29 and a strike rate of 126.29. His inconsistent form resulted in the misery Chennai faced in the season.
