This dropped catch happened in the super-6 stage of the 1999 World Cup. Australia took on South Africa in a must-win game to qualify for the semi-finals. Speaking of the incident, Australia was struggling at 149 runs in 30 overs. Ricky Ponting and Steve Waugh were batting that time. Waugh gave a simple catch to Herschelle Gibbs at short mid-wicket.

However, Gibbs took the cath. But, he dropped it eventually on his knee. Regarding that, Waugh said: “You just dropped the World Cup”. Waugh scored 120* runs and won the game for his team. With this loss, South Africa finished their journey in that World Cup in a sad way.
