Lucky Buttler escapes close calls; Twitter smells something fishy, calls for investigation
Rajasthan opening batter Jos Buttler got off to a unique start in the ongoing Indian T20 League. Buttler was facing Bhuvneshwar Kumar in the first over of the innings after Hyderabad won the toss and chose to field first. On the fifth ball of the over, the right-hander was caught at slips by Abdul Samad. However, in a surprising turn of events, the third umpire found out that the bowler had overstepped.
The wicketkeeper-batter from England couldn’t convert the free hit into a boundary. This wasn’t the only time the right-arm pacer overstepped in the game. In the third over, he again overstepped while bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal. This time around, Jaiswal hit a four on the free hit. The no-ball drama didn’t end with the dual errors.
Umran Malik also overstepped in the next over while bowling to Buttler. This time, Samad, who took the catch in the first over, dropped the proverbial chance at slips and the ball went to the boundary for a four. The netizens were not impressed by sloppy Hyderabad and went on to trolled them. They also laughed at Jos Buttler’s luck who refused to leave him. Many fans also went on to question Hyderabad’s sloppy fielding and demanded an investigation.
Talking about the game, Jaiswal (20) and Buttler amassed 58 runs in the powerplay. On the first ball of the seventh over, Romario Shepherd accounted for the left-hander with a slower delivery. Two overs later, Buttler (35) was eventually caught behind by Nicholas Pooran off Umran Malik. At the time of writing, the Men In Pink and Blue have amassed 196/4.
