Rajasthan and Lucknow faced off in the 20th match of the Indian T20 League 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The match went down the wire and Rajasthan won a thriller.

Lucknow won the toss and decided to field first as per the convention of ITL 2022. Rajasthan got a steady start to their innings as the openers put up 42 runs for the opening wicket. In the 6th over of the innings, Buttler was dismissed by Avesh Khan for 13 off 11 deliveries. The score of the team at this stage was 42 for 1 in 5.1 overs. Rajasthan experienced a collapse as they began to lose wickets at regular intervals and was left reeling at 67 for 4 within the 10th over. After this Shimron Hetmyer staged a brilliant turnaround from this stage with Ashwin as his wingman. When Ashwin was batting at 28 off 23 Rajasthan came up with a unique strategy of retiring him out as he was finding it difficult to go big. Hetmyer stayed unbeaten till the end scoring 59 off 36 deliveries. Courtesy of Hetmyer’s brilliant exploits Rajsthan reached a total of 165 runs in their 20 overs. Krishnappa Gowtham was the best bowler for Lucknow picking up 2 wickets from his 4 overs conceding 30 runs.

Lucknow looked shaky from the very beginning of their chase. Trent Boult was on fire as he picked up two wickets in the very first over. They were reduced to 14 for 3 within the 4th over of the innings. After this Quinton de Kock and Deepak Hooda stitched a partnership of 38 runs before Hooda was dismissed for 25 runs off 24 deliveries. Aysuh Badoni soon followed and Lucknow’s hopes now rested mainly on Quinton de Kock. After the 15th over of the innings, Lucknow was 97 for 5 down. With Krunal Pandya and Quinton de Kock at crease and Marcus Stoinis still to come Lucknow was hoping that they score the remaining 69 runs off the last 30 balls.

Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed De Kock in the 16th over and the balance weighed heavily towards Rajasthan at this stage. Marcus Stoinis came out to bat and did his best to shift the match towards Lucknow. He slammed 19 runs in the penultimate over of Prasidh Krishna and nearly ensured the win for his team. But Kuldeep Sen bowled a birlliant last over conceding 11 runs, when the target was 15. Lucknow lost the match by 3 runs as Stoinis stayed not out at 38 off 17 deliveries. This was Rajasthan’s 3rd win in 4 games and they are now placed at the top of the points table.
