Sri Lanka has recently appointed Chris Silverwood as the new Head Coach for the men’s team after Mickey Arthur stepped down from the role. Now they have announced the name of the Assistant coach under Silverwood. Naveed Nawaz, the former Sri Lankan batter will be seen in the role.

Notably, Nawaz had recently been the architect of Bangladesh’s U19 World Cup victory in 2020. He played one Test and three ODIs in his international career for Sri Lanka. However, he was a formidable force in the first-class arena. Scoring 6892 runs at an average of 36.27.

Nawaz was in prime contention for being the role of the Head Coach of the team in the past few months. But the board decided to go for a more reputed name in the international arena and decided to appoint Chris Silverwood. Notably. Nawaz was instrumental in the development of young Bangladeshi players such as Mahmudul Hasan joy, Shoriful Islam and Shamim Hossain, who later made it to the senior team.

Sri Lanka also revealed that Chaminda Vaas will be seen in the role of the bowling coach of the team. He has played the role in several stints over the past ten years. His reappointment comes after the board decided not to renew his contract in December last year. Along with this Piyal Wijetunge and Manoj Abeywickrama’s inclusion in the coaching team has also been announced. These appointments are, however, till the end of Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh in May.
