Rajasthan and Delhi played each other in the 58th match of the India T20 League 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Mumbai. On a pitch that is slowing down and allowing the balls to grip the surface, the bowlers left their mark on the match.

Delhi won the toss and decided to field first. Delhi made a great start by dismissing Buttler (7 of 11) early in the innings. Sanju Samson’s side was 11 for 1 down in the third over when Ravichandran Ashwin was sent into bat. He stitched a partnership of 43 runs with Yashasvi Jaiswal to stabilize the team’s progress. Jaiswal was dismissed next in the ninth over of the innings when the team’s score was 54 runs. Devdutt Padikkal replaced Jaiswal and with Ashwin laid a decent foundation for their team. Ashwin and Padikkal formed a partnership of 53 runs before Ashwin was dismissed in the 15th over of the innings. Before Ashwin was dismissed he scored 50 runs off 38 balls hitting 4 fours and 2 sixes. The team’s score at this stage was 107 for 3.

Padikkal stayed till the 19th over and scored 48 runs off 30 deliveries. Ashwin and Padikkal’s knocks helped Rajsthan post a total of 160 runs from their 20 overs. Chetan Shakriya was the pick of the bowlers for Delhi as he picked up two wickets for 23 runs from his 4 overs. Mitchell Marsh and Anrich Northe also picked up two wickets each.

Delhi lost Srikar Bharat (0 of 2) early in the chase. He fell in the second ball of the very first over. But after that Delhi rode on the back of great luck. Warner who as fining it difficult to play his natural game in the pitch got saved by his good luck by about three times. He however did not throw away his wicket and ground himself in middle. At the other end Mitchell Marsh was looking in a premium touch and kept Delhi way ahead of the equation. The partnership slowly shifted the balance in Delhi’s favor. As the  15th over concluded Delhi was stationed at 114 for 1 and needed 47 runs in the last five overs. With 9 wickets in hand Delhi was expected to reach the total easily.

Mitchell was finally dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal in the 18th over after he scored 89 runs off 62 deliveries. He hit five fours and seven sixes during his stay in the middle. His partnership with Warner worth 144 runs and brought their team within touching distance of win. Rishabh Pant replaced Mitchell Marsh and hastened Delhi’s victory. He remained not out on 13 off 4 balls, while Warner stayed unbeaten on 52 off 41 deliveries. With the win Delhi picked up their sixth in 12 matches while Rajasthan lost their 5th match in 12 outings.
