Dreams do come true: Five players whose fortunes changed after playing in Indian T20 League 2022

The Indian T20 League has been the reason for many talents from the most obscure parts of the season getting recognition in the world of cricket. It has changed the fortunes of many a player over the years.

Here in this list, we take a look at five such players who played in the Indian T20 League and their fortunes changed overnight.

1. Rinku Singh: Rinku Singh has been one of the biggest success stories of the Indian T20 League 2022. While being a part of the Kolkata squad for about five years, he got a significant chance of playing for the first time this year. He comes from a modest background and has done a lot of odd jobs from being a sweeper to driving an auto during his initial days of playing cricket. His father happens to be a gas cylinder delivery man and still lives in the stockyard. “I told Papa to stay in the new house. But papa wants to stay here in the stockyard. He has been working here for 35 years so he is comfortable in this environment,” Rinku said about his father to The Indian Express.

2. Kuldeep Sen: Kuldeep Sen was an unknown name in the Indian cricket circuit ahead of the Indian T20 League 2022. But everything changed after he defended 15 runs against Stoinis in the last over of the 20^th match of the tournament against Lucknow. He became a household name after that. In an interview, Kuldeep’s father spoke about his son’s success. He said- “It is like a dream come true. I used to scold and beat him a lot during his school days for cricket. But this cricket has given the name to my family. Whenever I beat him for cricket, he would say only one thing that cricket is his passion and dream.”

3. Kumar Kartikeya: Kumar Kartikeya was one of the few positives that Mumbai had to take form the Indian T20 League 2022. The young off-spin bowler impressed everybody from the frat match with the temperament he showed on the field. He comes from very modest family as his father works as a constable in a police station in Uttar Pradesh. The family was happy with Karthikeya’s success. The cricketer himself revealed about his family in an interview after his debut match where he said – “I told my father that I was going to play this match. He announced this in his entire battalion. They installed a projector. My dad watched the match on the projector. When I took my first wicket, everyone stood and clapped for him, and hugged him.”

4. Mohsin Khan: Moshin Khan has been brilliant with the bowl for Lucknow in the Indian T20 League 2022. He bowled with pace and control throughout the tournament. In the 14 matches that he played Mohsin gave away runs at the rate of just 5.97 runs per over and picked up 14 wickets to go along with it.

Speaking of his family background, he is the son of a sub-inspector of Uttar Pradesh. Hence, coming from lower-middle class family his claim to fame overnight is heartening to watch.

5. Umran Malik: The new pace sensation of India, Umran Malik is the biggest find of the Indian T20 League 2022. He has impressed everybody with the potency he brings with his sheer pace. Malik’s father is a fruit and vegetable seller at Gujjar Nagar in Jammu and Kashmir, his birthplace. With the talent and potential, he has shown in the tournament, Malik will surely bring even brighter days for his family in the near future.
