Five things to keep an eye on in the India vs South Africa T20I series
India will be facing South Africa in a five-match T20I series at home. The series is scheduled to start on June 9, 2022. India have selected a squad based on the Indian T20 League performances of the players. KL Rahul will be leading the side in the series.
India is coming into the series on the back of 12 consecutive wins in the shortest format of the games. A win for the Indian team in the first match of the series at Delhi will add the feather of most consecutive wins in T20I games to the cap. Here is a list of a few things to keep an eye on during the series.
1. KL Rahul’s leadership and T20 strike rate: KL Rahul will be leading the Indian team in the series against South Africa. This will be his second stint in the role. His captaincy career had a disastrous start as he lost 3 ODIs and 1 Test in South Africa. While the management has shown faith in Rahul’s leadership skills, they have also given him a warning as the team management is looking to groom the next leader after Rohit Sharma.
While there is no doubt regarding the potential and the scoring ability of KL Rahul, he has often faced criticism for his slow scoring rate in the shortest format of the game. Rahul finished the Indian T20 League 2022 with over 600 runs but he was often under scrutiny throughout the tournament because of his slow strike rate.
