Watch: Jasprit Bumrah’s Swashbuckling Batting Against Stuart Broad Creates A World Record
India is currently busy playing the fifth rescheduled Test match against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham. After the confirmation of Rohit Sharma’s exclusion due to Covid-19, Jasprit Bumrah was given the captaincy responsibilities. However, England won the toss and opted to bowl first in this historical Test match.
While batting first, India had a nervy start by losing five wickets for 98 runs only. But, both Ravindra Jadeja and Rishabh Pant had some different plans as they put up a solid record-breaking partnership of 222 runs. After ending day one’s play, India was on 338 runs by losing seven wickets. However, India managed to extend that total to 416 runs, thanks to some excellent batting down the order from their newly appointed captain Jasprit Bumrah. He even set an unexpected world record for himself while batting during the innings. He smashed the English pacer Stuart Broad for 35 runs in an over, which itself a world record. The same video got viral and circulated over social media platforms.

Jasprit Bumrah now holds the record for scoring the most runs in a single over in Test
It was the 84th over when Bumrah started this carnage against Broad. Speaking about the over, India’s skipper scored a boundary in the first ball while the next ball went for five wides. Bumrah hit the next ball for a six but it was also an illegal delivery as it was above the waist height.
Then, Bumrah smashed three more fours and a six in that over before earning a quick single on the last ball. Thus, the World record happened as Broad conceded 35 runs in total in that over. It was not the first time that Broad is experiencing something embarrassing against India.
Yuvraj Singh also smashed him for six sixes in an over during the T20 World Cup in 2007. However, before this, the record was held by South Africa’s Robin Peterson and Broad’s teammates James Anderson and Joe Root as they conceded 28 runs in an over.
Speaking of the current situation of the match, in reply to India’s total, England lost their opener, Alex Lees, as Bumrah opened his account for the match.
