Newly-appointed PCB chief indicates ‘solving Asia Cup 2023 hosting’ issues

In the last few months, India and Pakistan Cricket Boards is having a fight over Asia Cup 2023. It all started with Indian Cricket Board secretary and ACC president, Jay Shau unilaterally insisting on moving the tournament out of Pakistan. He cited security reasons and disapproval of the Indian team’s travel to Pakistan. In reply, the then PCB chief, Ramiz Raja threatened dire consequences.
He said that if the continental tournament is removed from Pakistan, their national side won to play the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Since then, the next year’s Asia Cup’s hosting right become a matter of concern. Meanwhile, in recent times, the PCB’s administration has changed. With the appointment of Najam Sethi, the board’s stance has rather been balanced and they are willing to work out their relationship with their Indian counterpart.
Talking about next year’s Asia Cup, the 74-year-old said that he will assess the situation alongside Asian Cricket Council. He added that the decision will be taken for the betterment of the game.
“As far as Asia Cup is concerned, I will go to ACC and see what the situation is; we’ll take a decision which is in the better interest of the game,” he said.
Won’t take any step that isolates Pakistan Cricket: Najam Sethi
The renowned media person in Pakistan further added that the board won’t take any decision that isolates Pakistan cricket from the rest of the world. Talking about traveling to India for the 2023 ODI World Cup, he said that it all depends on the permission from the goverment.
“We have to see what other board’s position is, we have to play cricket with everyone, we will not take any step which can cause any isolation.”
“We will obey whatever the government would suggest to us and we will seek the government’s advice when the time arrives, similar to the last time I was the chairman,” noted Sethi.
