‘Juniors ki cricket khatam’ – Fans troll Kamran Akmal after being appointed as chief of junior selection committee by PCB

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is trying out several things after a dismal home season and roped in Haroon Rasheed as the chief selector of the selection committee. To add more, the Najam Sethi-led board is trying all they can to get things sorted ahead of the 50-over World Cup scheduled to take place later this year. 

With Rasheed taking over as the new chief selector replacing Shahid Afridi who was the interim chief, fans hope for a change and revamp in the side which is at stake at present with no real clue of how to take things further winning only 1 match at home after the conclusion of the 20-20 World Cup 2022. 

That being said, on January 30, Monday, former Pakistani cricketer Kamran Akmal was appointed as the chief selector of the junior selection committee with the hope to identify and scouting talents. Alongside Akmal, seven more names were added to the committee and them being Sohail Tanvir, Amir Nazir, Taimoor Khan, Junaid Khan, Faisal Athar, Qaisar Abbas and Sanaullah Baloch. 

Can Kamran Akmal identify the right talents for Pakistan?

However, fans were unhappy with the selection as Akmal would be responsible to identify the right talents for the U13, U16 and U19 trials who will become the future of the Pakistani team. It remains to be seen if the right-handed batter would be able to come up with the right choices, given that the burden is upon him. 

“The Pakistan Cricket Board has named an eight-member selection committee, which will conduct U13, U16 and U19 trials for the selection of regional and district teams. Former Test wicketkeeper/batter Kamran Akmal has been appointed as the chair, while other members of the panel are Sohail Tanvir, Amir Nazir, Taimoor Khan, Junaid Khan, Faisal Athar, Qaisar Abbas, Sanaullah Baloch. Each selector, along with head coach of the region/district, will conduct trials according to the schedule, which will be announced in due course,” said PCB in a statement released on Monday.
