Ravi Shastri explains how Rohit Sharma brought up his Test ton against Australia

On the second day of the ongoing first Test against Australia, India skipper Rohit Sharma brought up his maiden Test ton against the opposition. His innings came at a time when India was struggling at 168/5 in reply to Australia’s 177 all-out. Sharma’s innings helped the team as they amassed 321/7 at the end of the second day’s play. Meanwhile, after the day, Ravi Shastri explained what Sharma did to reach the milestone.

The former India head coach said that Sharma kept the tempo going for India despite wickets falling at the other end. Shastri added that the India skipper realized that if the home team needed to get into a strong position, Sharma needed to score a hundred.

“Rohit Sharma kept the tempo going for India. Wickets were falling around him but his momentum and tempo did not change,” Shastri told the host broadcaster after the end of Day 2.

“Rohit Sharma realized very early that he needed to get a biggie to get India into that strong position. 1st Test of the series, captain of the series, if he can lead from the front, he can get India there (to series victory),” Shastri lauded the batter’s efforts.

Meanwhile, on the ongoing third day of the game, the World Number Two Test side started the day with 321/7. The likes of Axar Patel and Ravindra Jadeja had hit half-centuries each. On the other hand, Sharma was cleaned up in the third session by Pat Cummins. Meanwhile, on the ongoing day, the Rohit Sharma-led side amassed 400 all-out, leading the game by 223 runs.

Jadeja left the ball and got out after scoring 70 runs. On the other hand, Patel was the last player to go as Cummins cleaned him up. In reply, Australia lost the wickets of Usman Khawaja and Marnus Labuschagne. They have lost two wickets for 26 runs.
