‘Hitwomen in Mumbai’ – Fans abuzz as Mumbai buys Harmanpreet Kaur for INR 1.8 crores in Women’s T20 League 2023 Auction
The player’s auction for the inaugural edition of the Women’s T20 League is underway at the Jio World Convention center in Mumbai. The auction started with the first set of marquee players which included Indian Captain Harmanpreet Kaur and Smriti Mandhana. India skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was bought by the Mumbai franchise.
Harmanpreet Kaur attracted a Bidding war as four out of five teams bid for her. India skipper attracted bids from Bangalore, Delhi, Mumbai, and Lucknow franchises and eventually sold to Mumbai for INR 180 lakhs. Harmanpreet could be a great buy for the Mumbai-based franchise as she can bowl, bat in top order and also provide a leadership quality. Harmanpreet Kaur in her T20I career has scored 2956 runs in 147 matches at an average of 28.15 with the help of nine 50s and one hundred. Harman has also clinched 32 wickets in the format at an average of 24. She can also captain the Mumbai-based franchise.
However, before Harmanpreet Kaur star India batter Smriti Mandhana becomes the first player to go under the hammer. The India vice-captain Mandhana was bought by a Bangalore-based franchise after an intense bidding war. Mandhana went for INR 340 lakhs as she attracted a bidding war from Mumbai and Bangalore which was eventually won by Bangalore.
Bangalore in the first round of the auction bought three players. They got Australia and New Zealand stalwarts Ellyse Perry and Sophie Devine in addition to Mandhana at INR 170 and 50 lakhs respectively. Meanwhile, Sophie Ecclestone was acquired by team Lucknow and Ash Gardner was the second most expensive player. She has been acquired by the Gujarat-based franchise for INR 320 Lakhs.
