The Delhi franchise showed a great gesture toward their skipper Rishabh Pant, who has been missing from the ongoing season of the Indian T20 League due to injury. Amidst that, during the ongoing match against the Lucknow franchise, Pant’s Indian T20 jersey was spotted in Delhi’s dugout as a tribute for the young wicketkeeper batter.

Pant met with a major car accident in December 2022. He underwent ligament surgery due to which he is out of cricketing action for the last three months. However, it seems like the 25-year-old is heading towards a speedy recovery as he posted updates of his progress on his social media a couple of times. That’s the reason that the Delhi skipper has been ruled out of the ongoing season of the cash-rich cricket league. Australian batter David Warner has taken over the captaincy duties for Delhi in Pant’s absence in the 2023 season.

Kyle Mayers had a memorable debut in Indian T20 League

Talking about Delhi’s ongoing match, Warner won the toss and asked Lucknow to bat first at the Ekana Cricket Stadium. Lucknow had a slow start as they lost their skipper KL Rahul for 8 runs at the score of 19 in four overs. After that, Kyle Mayers took the charge of Lucknow innings. The Caribbean batter smashed a fiery half-century on his Indian T20 League debut as he got out after scoring 73 runs off 38 balls smashing two fours and seven sixes. Mayers also added 79 runs with Deepak Hooda (17 off 18) for the second wicket.

Nicolas Pooran also played a good hand by scoring 36 off 21, including two fours and three sixes. After that, Krunal Pandya (15 off 13) and Ayush Badoni (17 off 8) added the finishing touches to the innings, followed by the last ball six by Lucknow’s impact player Krishnappa Gowtham as the home team posted a big total of 193 runs for the loss of 7 wickets.

For Delhi, Khaleel Ahmed and Chetan scalped 2 wickets each, while Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav shared a wicket each. Delhi need 194 runs to give a winning start to their 2023 Indian T20 League campaign.
