‘I’ve No Shame in accepting my mistakes as captain’ – Virat Kohli’s bold statement on his captaincy

The Indian Premier League’s 16th season is already in full swing, and former India captain Virat Kohli is in excellent form, scoring runs for his club Royal Challengers Bangalore. The RCB superstar captained the Indian cricket team until 2022 when he gave up his position as Test captain.

He gave the nation several honors during his time as captain, but he also came under fire for not leading his team to an ICC title. Without a doubt, Kohli’s captaincy led the Indian side to play an aggressive style of cricket in the Test matches. The previous captain, on the other hand, has openly acknowledged that he committed a number of errors while serving as the captain.

In an interview for a sports documentary series, Kohli stated that he never had any self-serving intentions while leading team India. He acknowledged that he made several errors while leading Team India. Additionally, he acknowledged that as the captain, he had committed some errors.

“Hundred percent. So I have no shame in accepting that I made many mistakes when I was the captain. But the one thing I know, for sure that I never did anything for my own selfish motives I can take guarantee of that from the one to the last day. I have not done anything for myself. I just had one goal to take the team ahead. I can totally accept if I have taken the decisions correctly or not.  I can totally accept it you make mistakes like you make errors when you get out, that’s a failure. Failures will keep happening but the intent was never in the wrong please,” Kohli was quoted as saying.

So I can absolutely take guarantee of that. Till that is in its right place, you will make mistakes, but you will learn from that as I said, you will not then start shining away from making things. My intentions were always right. The ways I said you had to tweak according to individuals. Many times decisions have been wrong, but these things teach you a lot. Then you start taking it as the whole journey and what went well, but then go right and then you learn from all situations so that’s exactly what happened,” the 34-year-old asseted.
