‘Bande me hain dum’ – Fans react as Shaheen Shah Afridi takes four wickets in an over against Warwickshire in Vitality T20 Blast

Pakistan left-arm seamer Shaheen Shah Afridi, who represents Nottinghamshire in the Vitality Blast, snapped four wickets against the Warwickshire in the first over. Nevertheless, despite his heroics, Nottinghamshire lost the rain-affected game by two wickets. Shaheen’s start was not perfect, as he threw five wides with his first ball before taking wickets on his second, third, fifth, and sixth deliveries of the over.

The Warwickshire captain, Alex Davies slumped to the ground after failing to cope with Shaheen’s toe-crushing yorker. Chris Benjamin, who came to bat next, attempted to play the scoop but was clean-bowled. Two singles and two more wickets came off the final two balls, with Ed Barnard being bowled first ball by a superb yorker and Dan Mousley being caught by Stone at the short cover with a fantastic one-handed catch.

“We deserved to win but they played well in the last few overs after the rain. It was the first time I took four wickets in my first over. It was good but if we would have won the game that would have been nice. Unfortunately, we lost. It felt really nice the way the crowd was supporting me. When I was running in it felt like I am playing in Pakistan. I have spent a good time with my teammates, it is like a family. The rain delay affected the game. It changed the game. We were not able to grip the ball but that’s cricket you can’t control the weather,” Afridi was quoted as saying after the match.

Nevertheless, despite his heroics, Nottinghamshire fell short by two wickets, with the weather playing a significant role. Olly Stone, who went off after only delivering three deliveries, was also sidelined to injury for Nottinghamshire. Warwickshire won the game thanks to Rob Yates’ brilliance (65 runs off 46 balls), along with important contributions from Glenn Maxwell (19 runs), Jacob Bethell (27 runs), and Jake Lintott (unbeaten 27 runs). 22 extras were also given up by Nottinghamshire, which wasn’t helpful for them.
