Gautam Gambhir set to leave Lucknow Super Giants ahead of Indian Premier League 2024
Former India opener Gautam Gambhir is reportedly set to leave the role of Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) mentor ahead of the upcoming edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). According to reports by Dainik Jagran, the left-hand batter himself wants to leave the team and is connected with joining his former team, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a mentor.
“After Andy Flower, Gautam Gambhir will now leave the IPL franchise… I can’t say anything further beyond this,” a source close to Danik Jagran has confirmed Gautam Gambhir’s decision to leave the franchise. If the reports of Gambhir joining the KKR side comes to turn out to be true, it’ll be a homecoming for the former Indian batter.
Justin Langer to debut as a coach in Indian Premier League 2024
Gambhir joined the Knight Riders back in 2011. KKR won two titles under his leadership, first in 2012 and then in 2014. If he joins the team for the upcoming season then it would be a boost for them as they are struggling to perform from the last few seasons. LSG have recently roped in Justin Langer as their head coach for the forthcoming season of the lucrative league.
“Lucknow Super Giants have appointed legendary former Australian cricket team coach and batsman Justin Langer as their team head coach. As the two-year contract of Andy Flower comes to an end, Lucknow Supergiant’s thanks Andy Flower for his contribution,” LSG said in a statement, as quoted by Hindustan Times.
LSG showed thankfulness to Flower, who was its head coach for two seasons. “Dear Andy, today it’s farewell, but it’ll never be goodbye because you’ll always be one of our own. Thank you for everything!” the franchise wrote in their Twitter post. Earlier, Langer led the Perth Scorchers to three Big Bash titles. Australia have also won T20 World Cup 2021 under him. Notably, Justin Langer will be making his debut as a coach in IPL in the upcoming season.
