Massive bonanza for Sri Lankan ground staff announced by Jay Shah
The 2023 edition of the Asia Cup came to an end as India won the tile for the 8th time. Sri Lanka were bowled out for just 50 runs in the 16th over. Mohammad Siraj with 6/21 was the star with the ball. The 29-year-old got four wickets in a single over to destroy the Sri Lankan batting.
The Indians took just 6.1 overs to chase down the 51-run score to win the match and the title. The unsung heroes of the tournament were the Sri Lankan groundsmen who relentlessly strived to keep the matches going. This was despite the rains that affected the games at various times during the tournament.
Asian Cricket Body announces huge reward for the groundsmen of Sri Lanka
Jay Shah who is the Indian Cricket Board’s vice-president occupies an important position in the Asian Cricket Body. The 34-year-old came up with a huge message on Twitter during the Asia Cup Final. Jay Shah announced a huge cash reward for the hard-working groundsmen who played a huge part in the scheduling of games.

Rains almost played a part in each of the games that were played during the tournament in Sri Lanka. Pallekele and Colombo saw rains delay most of the games. Barring two games each of the matches was affected by rain. The grounds men though did not falter in their duties as they were proactive in their efforts.
Sri Lanka won the toss on Sunday in front of a packed crowd. Mohammad Siraj picked 6/21 with the ball. This was his best figure in ODI cricket as he was later named player of the game. The right-arm pacer picked four wickets in one over to break the back of the Sri Lankan batting unit.
Kusal Mendis scored 17 while Dunith Wellalage scored 13. Hardik Pandya then finished the innings with figures of 3/3. Jasprit Bumrah got the early wicket of Kusal Perera for a duck.
India opened with Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill, the openers had no issue as they got to the target. The Indian team scored the needed runs in just 6.1 overs as they won the Asia Cup for the 8th time. Kishan was not out on 23 off 18 balls, while Gill scored 27 off 19 balls with 6 fours.
