India’s veteran cricketer Sunil Gavaskar recently analysed India’s performance against Bangladesh and talked about Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer’s dismissal. Notably India maintained their streak and won the fourth match of the ODI World Cup 2023 against Bangladesh in Pune on 19 October and maintained their second spot on the points table of the ODI World Cup.

Sunil Gavaskar believe Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer were too hasty and lacked patients during the game due to which they lost their wickets. Sunil Gavaskar highlighted that Shreyas Iyer has not scored a century since long and is lacking that patience, despite getting repeated opportunities as the number four batsman of the Indian cricket team in the ODIs.

“He (Shreyas Iyer) lost his patience. He was batting on 19, and threw his wicket away. Shubman Gill (was batting on) fifty (52), threw his wicket away. You need to know how to get to a hundred. Shubman Gill is at least getting hundreds, Shreyas Iyer is not getting hundreds. He is getting his opportunities to bat at number 4 on pitches as good as these and attacks as toothless as this and he is throwing away the opportunity,” said Sunil Gavaskar while talking to star Sports.

“Kohli never does that. Kohli will seldom ever throw his wicket away. He makes you earn his wicket. And that is exactly what you need. When he got to 70-80, realising that he has an opportunity to get to a hundred and why not? Hundreds don’t come everyday,” added Gavaskar.

In the post match ceremony, India’s captain Rohit Sharma talked about the positive atmosphere of the dressing room and the team’s victory over Bangladesh and said, “It was a good win, something we were looking forward to. We didn’t start well, but the guys pulled it back in the middle-overs and at the back-end. Our fielding has been superb in all these matches, it’s something that’s in your control, you can put in your best effort. The bowlers were smart to understand what lengths to bowl. Jaddu was brilliant with the ball and the catch, but you can’t beat a hundred. We’re doing well as a group, a medal for all performances in the playing field and that’s something which motivates everyone to do well.”
