‘Shaandar performance’- Fans react as India Women beat Australia Women by 8 wickets in one-off Test
India Women beat Australia Women in the only test match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday. Harmanpreet Kaur’s side won their first test match against the Aussies. They won the game by 8 wickets while chasinga target of 75 runs on the last day of the test match. Australia captain Alyssa Healy after winning the toss chose to bat first, and they could only scored 219 runs in the first innings with Tahila McGrath scoring a half century for the visitors and Pooja Vastrakar picking up four wickets.
Indian openers Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma started off well with the first wicket partnership wentt till 90 runs with the latter was the first one to be dismissed on 40 runs and missed his half-century. Mandhana scored 74 runs and was unfortunatley run out and missing her hundred. Richa Ghosh and Jemimah Rodrigues built the partnership of 113 runs and made sure they take a good first inning lead, both the batters scoring half centuries.
Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur and Yastika Bhatia were back quickly in the pavilion and they were reduced 274/7. But Pooja Vastrakar and Deepti Sharma’s crucial partnership helped India score 406 runs. With the latter scoring the highest score for the team with 78 runs. In the second innings the Aussies were bowled out for 261 with 6 of the wickets they lost for 55 runs. Sneh Rana spinning the web and picking up 4 wickets. India chased the target of 75 runs with eight wickets in hand.

After the game Kaur said, “It is a reward for the hard work over the years. Credit to the coaches. We just try to keep it simple. We just thought if we can play positive cricket, that is why we put Richa up the order.”
“We just wanted to keep putting the pressure. We just had to stay in the moment. We tried our best to get them early in the second innings, but that partnership in the middle did not let us. But we kept our faith in our bowling and it worked.”
