‘It is a shame’ – Fans react as David Warner’s green baggy cap gets stolen ahead of Farewell Test Match against Pakistan

Australia’s former captain and attacking opening batsman David Warner recently made a request on his social media accounts for his backpack which contained his baggy green cap. Warner’s bag reportedly got stolen during his flight journey from Melbourne to Sydney ahead of his farewell test series against Pakistan.

David Warner will play his last test match against Pakistan at the Sydney cricket ground from Wednesday, 3rd January 2024. He posted a video on his social media accounts making a plea to return his bag so that he could wear his baggy cap one last time.

Warner posted, “Hi all, this is my last resort. But my backpack, which contained my Baggy Green, has been taken from my luggage, which was transported to Melbourne airport and flown on @qantas to Sydney a few days ago. @qantas have said they checked their cameras and have not seen anyone open our bags and take the backpack, however they do have blind spots. If you are the person, who was either working for the company driving it to and from the airport or working for @qantas and have, by chance, just wanted the backpack, I have one for. I would be grateful if this were returned asap. Thanks.”

“Please reach out to Cricket Australia or myself via my social media and I’m happy to give this to you if you return my baggy greens,” he said.

Recently ahead of his final test match David Warner also announced his retirement from the ODIs and reflected upon his career in the one-day format.

In an official statement, Warner said, “I’ve got to give back to the family and also on the back of that I’m retiring from one-day cricket as well. That was something that I had said through the (2023) World Cup, get through that, and winning it in India, I think that’s a massive achievement.”

“So I’ll make that decision today, to retire from those forms, which does allow me to go and play some other (Twenty20) leagues around the world and sort of get the one-day team moving forward a little bit. I know a Champions Trophy is coming up. If I’m playing decent cricket in two years and I’m around and they need someone, I’m going to be available,” he added.
