Mohammed Shami to lead India in Test ? Here’s what the pacer has to say

India pacer Mohammed Shami has said that he is open to lead India if the BCCI ask him to do so. The Test captain position is left vacant since Virat Kohli decided to step down from the job after India lost the Test series against South Africa. Kohli captained the side for 68 Tests since December 2014 and won 40 Tests. However, he stepped down from the role after India’s loss in the Test series against South Africa.

Although Rohit Sharma and KL Rahul look to be the front-runners for the job, both have issues to solve. Sharma’s fitness is a concern. Also, BCCI is reportedly not in favour of one skipper for all formats. 

 Meanwhile, Rahul is inexperienced as far as leading a national side is concerned which was visible in the ODI series against the Temba Bavuma-led side. The skipper for the longest in the team hasn’t been announced yet and it is believed that the next captain will be appointed before the Test series against Sri Lanka.

Meanwhile, Shami has said that any player would like to captain the team but he is not thinking about the job and is ready to fulfil any responsibility thrown at him.

“I am not thinking too much about captaincy at the moment. I am ready for whatever responsibility is given to me. To be honest, who doesn’t want to captain the India team but it is not the only thing and I am looking to contribute in whichever manner possible for the team.”

“I am available for selection in all formats and if it happens, I am more than looking forward to it,” Shami told India.com

The right-arm seamer also added that he is ready to play for any team in the ITL. He was not retained by Punjab ahead of the player retention last year.

“I will be in the auctions and ready to play for any franchise that picks me. So, looking forward to it but can’t pick a team or predict anything. Anything can happen in the auction and I am ready to play for any franchise,” added the India fast bowler.
