On Monday, May 8, the Wankhede Stadium saw a cordial reunion of India’s past and present batting legends. Before their match between Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL 2023, Virat Kohli and Sachin Tendulkar had a talk. On May 9, Royal Challengers Bangalore will visit Mumbai for their clash against Mumbai Indians. Tendulkar and Kohli were ecstatic to meet one another on the day of the game. 59679 international runs and 175 centuries have been shared by the two Indian superstars.

The start of Kohli’s tenure with the Indian side came towards the tail end of Tendulkar’s spectacular career. Tendulkar and Kohli shared the dressing room and experienced some special moments together on the pitch. It’s interesting to recall that Kohli made his debut in a foreign country while Tendulkar was a member of India’s team for the 2008 tour of Sri Lanka. In his own words, Kohli once described how he was deceived by Munaf Patel, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, and Harbhajan Singh. Kohli was forced to approach and touch Tendulkar’s feet by the then-superstars and the Delhi youngster agreed.

Virat Kohli shares his first meeting with Sachin Tendulkar

“My first interaction with him (Tendulkar) was very funny. First interaction, I had prepared for two days only to meet him. To meet Sachin Tendulkar in the Indian dressing room. Now some guys found out. I must have spoken with someone about feeling nervous. They played a prank on me, telling me that all rookies have to pay their respects by touching Sachin’s feet. And I took them seriously. So I went to greet him.,” Kohli was quoted as saying on Breakfast with Champions.

“Just as I was about to touch his feet he says, ‘what are you doing?’ I tell him, ‘they told me I had to touch your feet out of respect when I meet you’. He says, ‘no, no they are just pulling your leg’. So that was my first interaction with Sachin,” the 34-year-old asserted. As Master Blaster currently holds the record for the most hundreds across all forms, Kohli is often compared to Tendulkar. Kohli has 75 hundred, compared to Tendulkar’s precise 100.
