‘Ab apne grandson ko laegaa’ – Fans react as former Pakistan cricketer Inzamam-ul-Haq appointed as PCB’s Chief Selector

Former Pakistan cricket team’s captain Inzamam-ul-Haq has been reappointed for the position of chief selector by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The position of PCB’s chief selector has been vacant since the previous selector Haroon Rasheed called it quits last month. The previous week, Inzamam was appointed to be a part of the PCB’s cricket technical committee, along with former Pakistan cricketers, Mohammad Hafeez and Misbah-ul-Haq. Notably, it is assumed that since he has now been appointed as the chief selector, he will have to leave his previous position. 

Inzamam previously held the chief selectors office from 2016 to 2019 and was given the responsibility to select the squad for the ODI World Cup 2019. As the PCB’s chief selector, Inzamam will also be tasked with selecting the ODI World Cup squad 2023 as well. As of now Inzamam Ul Huq is expected to select his own team and operate the selecting decisions with the consultation of the head coach and director in the absence of a multi-member selection panel or committee. 

“The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing the new selection committee and it is yet to be decided whether Arthur and Bradburn should remain members on it,” said the source. “Their input will determine whether having both a team director and head coach on the selection panel has proven beneficial for Pakistan’s cricketing fortunes,” added the source. 

“The Cricket Technical Committee members including Misbah ul Haq, Inzamam and Muhammad Hafeez have been discussing the new selection committee and it is yet to be decided whether Arthur and Bradburn should remain members on it,” concluded the source. Cricket fans gave mixed reactions to Pakistan cricket board’s latest decision of reappointing Inzamam as the chief selector.
