Ab bahut mehnat karni padegi…’ – Fans react as India Women’s Cricket Team wins Gold in Asian Games 2023 after beating Sri Lanka in final
History was created on Monday in the Asian Games 2023. The Indian women’s cricket team won the gold medal. This was the first time Indian Cricket was participating in the Asian Games. The Men’s event will start in a few days but Harmanpreet Kaur and her team have given India a dream start.
India was facing Sri Lanka in the final at the Pingfeng Cricket Campus Stadium in Hangzhou. Harmanpreet Kaur won the toss and chose to bat first on a wicket that wasn’t batter-friendly.Earlier in the day Bangladesh had beaten Pakistan to take the bronze medal. Bangladesh won the game by 5 wickets in a low scoring encounter. The focus moved to the afternoon game with the gold medal on the line.
The Indian team lost the wicket of Shafali Varma early. The young right-handed batter could score only 9 runs before being dismissed. It was then the pair of Smriti Mandhana and Jemimah Rodrigues who steadied the ship. On a difficult wicket to bat, the pair batted with intelligence. The two added 73 runs in 67 balls for the 2nd wicket. Just against the run of play, Mandhana was out for 48 which was the top scorer for India.
India takes home historic gold in Asian Games
Rodrigues was out for 42 with 5 fours in her knock which came off 40 balls. Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet Kaur fell for single-digit scores. India scored 116 for 7 from their full quota of overs.
Tasked with chasing 117 to win, Sri Lanka began aggressively. The Introduction of Titas Sadhu swung the match in India’s favor. The medium-pace bowler got three wickets in quick succession to reduce Sri Lanka to 14/3. The Sri Lankans fought back with a 36-run partnership between Hasini Perera and De Silva. This stand was broken when Rajashri Gayakwad had Hasini Perera caught by Pooja Vastrakar for 25.
De Silva tried to keep going along with Oshadi Ranasinghe but the Indian bowlers were just too good. In the end, the total of 116 proved too much for the Sri Lanka team who could only score 97/8. India won the game and gold medal by 19 runs to take the podium.

Abhi bohot mehnat karni padegi hamari ladkiyon ko England aur Australia jaisa talent pull banane me. WPL is a great start. Future me hamari mahila team bhi utani mazboot hogi jitne Men's ki hai.
