AB de Villiers is one of the finest player of white-ball cricketer of this generation. Mr. 360 as he is often called for his unorthodox style of playong cricket has amassed many fans. He has been an Indian Premier League (IPL) legend for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). He has retired from all form of cricket and has been giving expert analysis on his YouTube channel.
During a Q&A session on his YouTube channel, de Villiers gave the name of the England star all-rounder Sam Curran, has been has been overvalued at the IPL. He believes that Curran is a ‘wonderful player’ but pointed out that he has not been exceptional for England or his IPL franchises. The 25-year-old all-rounder was previously the highest paid player of the tournament when he was bought by Punjab Kings (PBKS) for an massive amount of 18.50 crore INR.
But he failed to deliver as per the expectations and as per he was not in the shortlisted in the auction 2024 list of 333 players. He has been the man of the tournament in 2022 T20 World Cup for the three lions as well.
In my opinion, he’s been overpaid for quite a few years now: AB de Villiers
De Villiers said, “I don’t like to be controversial. But, in my opinion, he’s been overpaid for quite a few years now. He’s not a bad player; I like him. He’s had a fantastic World Cup, but that’s quite a few years back. I don’t think he’s had a very good IPL recently. Also, for England, he hasn’t played exceptionally well.”
“He can turn things around like most world class players can. Nothing against Sam Curran. I still think he’s a wonderful player. I just think he’s been overpaid for a few years. Maybe it would have been a good move for them to let him go to open up some funds to buy different players.”
The former Proteas captain talking about the IPL 2024 mini-auction said, “Nuwan Thushara and Dilshan Madushanka – two fantastic players. Also, Mohammad Nabi and Shreyas Gopal two very good buys for their price. They can offer you a lot. I think they did pretty well. All the young bowlers will feed off Jasprit Bumrah. I absolutely love the look of Coetzee, Madushanka and Thushara.”
