The problems surrounding the Pakistan Cricket after their exit from World Cup 2023 is not getting any easier. Now, according to the latest update from Pakistan Cricket, Morne Morkel has stepped down from his role as the bowling coach of the Pakistan Men’s team. The former South African fast bowler had signed a six-month contract with the team in June. Moreover, he took on his initial assignment during the team’s tour to Sri Lanka for a two-match Test series.

The Pakistan Cricket Board will reveal the successor for Morne Morkel in due course. Pakistan’s upcoming challenge is a three-match Test series against Australia. It is set to commence from December 14 to January 7 in Australia. In addition to it, the Pakistan team is also set to fly to Australia in  December. But before this, the Pakistan team is also expected to set up a camp for the tour from November 21.

In the World Cup, Pakistan faced setbacks after two consecutive initial victories, enduring four subsequent losses. The possibility of securing a spot in the semifinals became virtually impossible in their last league-stage match against England. Pakistan needed to chase down an imposing total of 338 runs within 6.4 overs. This marked the fifth consecutive instance at the ODI World Cup where Pakistan failed to advance to the semifinals. It has now triggered discussions and concerns back home.

Inzamam ul Haq also resigned from role of Pakistan chief selector

Earlier on November 30, Inzamam-ul-Haq, the former captain, tendered his resignation as the chief selector in the middle of the ongoing premier tournament. This decision followed Pakistan’s four consecutive losses in the ODI Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023. Inzamam conveyed his resignation to Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf, expressing dissatisfaction with allegations of a conflict of interest in the team selection process for the World Cup.

The PCB initiated a five-member committee to investigate these accusations. The termination of Inzamam’s contract as chief selector might impose a substantial financial burden on the board, with reports suggesting a potential payment of around PKR 15 million.
