At a young age, Riyan Parag has seen two extreme sides of life. The performances of the Assam cricketer have been amazing in domestic cricket, which has given him confidence in his abilities. At the same time, the Guwahati-born cricketer has not been able to replicate his performances at the domestic level to the IPL level, which has not gone well with the fans.

As a result, Parag has been trolled on social media for his performances. At such a young age, Parag has played alongside some top cricketers, which is a dream for many youngsters. Parag, who is a constant learner, performed well in the recently concluded Deodhar trophy 2023, both as a batter and as a bowler.

Parag had a conversation with Virat Kohli during IPL 2023.  Speaking about it in an interview, Parag revealed his conversation. “He told me ‘Something that has worked for half a year cannot be wrong after a few failures. What happens in the IPL is that the tournament goes on so fast that after failing two games, you start to question yourself. Everyone makes mistakes and I have made tons of them. Two-three games do not go your way and you feel the need to change your process and work ethic,” said Parag.

‘I have an idea why people hate me’ – Parag

“It was him telling me that ‘take the reality check and accept that this is a bad phase, but it does not mean that you need to change the process that has been working for you’,” Parag talked about the advice given to him by Virat.

“People have a problem with me chewing gum. If my collar is up that is a problem. I celebrate after taking a catch which is a problem. They have a problem with my gaming and playing golf in my off time. I have an idea why people hate me. There is a rulebook about how you should play cricket. The T-shirt should be tucked in, the collar should be down, give respect to everyone, do not sledge anyone, and I am completely the opposite” Parag talked about the criticisms he has been receiving lately.
