‘Agar kisi aur ko century banani hai contact Mumbai’- Fans react as Mumbai suffered sixth consecutive defeat in the Indian T20 League 2022
Mumbai suffered sixth consecutive defeat in the Indian T20 League on Saturday after losing to Lucknow by 18 runs. The five-time winners have had a disastrous start to their campaign. Rohit Sharma and Co. are yet to win a game this season and, thus, are languishing at the bottom of the points table.
To the delight of Mumbai fans, Rohit Sharma won the toss on Saturday and asked Lucknow to bat first. Mumbai, though, would have loved to bat first but their lack of confidence in the bowling unit didn’t allow them to do so. Lucknow, on the other hand, made a great start with the bat.
Quinton de Kock and KL Rahul added 50 runs in the first five overs. However, the southpaw, unfortunately, got out off Fabien Allen in the last over of the power play after scoring 24 off 13 balls. KL Rahul, then shifted gears and kept scoring boundaries at regular intervals.
He shared a valuable partnership of 72 runs for the second wicket with Manish Pandey, and had complete control in the game. Manish Pandey to returned to form with a vital knock of 38 runs in 29 balls. KL Rahul, on the other hand, played right till the end and went on to score his first half century this season. His knock helped Lucknow reach a formidable score of 199 runs in the first innings.
Mumbai’s bowling unit, once again, failed to hit the straps. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, none of the bowlers looked effective with the ball.
In pursuit of the total, Rohit Sharma, once again, got out cheaply for 6 runs in 7 balls, while Ishan Kishan (13 off 17) failed to convert the start into a big score. Devald Brewis (31 off 13) played a brilliant cameo to accelerate the run-rate but was also guilty of not covering the start into a big score. The likes of Suryakumar Yadav (37 off 27), Tilak Varma (26 off 26) and Kieron Pollard (25 off 14) all tried hard but couldn’t help the team cross the line. In the end, Mumbai fell 18 runs short of the target. As for Lucknow, Avesh Khan starred with the bat, picking 3 for 30 in 4 overs.
The fans were left disappointed after another failure from Mumbai. A lot of them took to Twitter to express their displeasure. Some of them also took the defeat as another opportunity to troll the franchise after suffering their sixth consecutive defeat. Here’s a look at some of the notable reactions:
