‘Ah s**t, here we go again’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli replaces Faf du Plessis as RCB captain against PBKS in IPL 2023

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clash against Punjab Kings (PBKS) in the 27th match of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 on Thursday, April 20 at the Punjab Cricket Association IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali. PBKS kicked off their season with two wins on the trot but then went on to concede the next two.

On the other hand, RCB have played 5 matches and suffered losses in 3 matches. Meanwhile, fans witnessed a huge surprise when they saw former Indian captain Virat Kohli show up for the toss instead of their regular captain Faf du Plessis. Kohli is leading RCB against PBKS as du Plessis will only come to bat and also won’t be fielding.

PBKS are also sweating over the fitness of their captain Shikhar Dhawan. And just like the last match, star allrounder Sam Curran is leading the side. However, another star allrounder Liam Livingstone has finally made it into the playing XI and will look to find the momentum from his very first match of the season.

During the toss, Kohli revealed that du Plessis won’t be fielding as he is suffering from a rib injury but will come as an impact player to open the innings with Kohli. However, Kohli lost the toss and was asked to bat first, after which he said that they wanted to bat first and got what they wanted. RCB didn’t make any changes in their playing XI.

“Faf potentially can’t be fielding today, so he’ll be playing as an impact player, switching with Vyshak. We got to do what we wanted, we would have batted first, the pitch could get slow, and some scruff marks will help the bowlers go deep into the game. Taking one game at a time, focusing on our own game, and making the most of crunch situations, we haven’t gone that so far in the tournament. No other changes for us,” said Kohli.
