The Big Bash League has had full of controversies in the ongoing season. There have been some great catches, runs scored in the tournament, and yet there are decisions where the player should have given a six but was adjudged out despite the fielder juggling the ball.

On Tuesday, the Melbourne Derby sparked a new controversy on the field when Adam Zampa’s run-out claim was not approved by the umpire. Melbourne Renegades took on Melbourne Stars at Melbourne Cricket Ground in the 27th game. A strange incident occurred during Melbourne Renegades’ innings in the final over.

Adam Zampa ran out Rogers, who was well out of his crease, before the bowler had completed the delivery. The crowd booed at the leggie.

Despite the runout, the umpire asked Rogers to remain on the pitch. The underlying reason was Adam Zampa removed the bails after completing the action. In the last three deliveries, Melbourne Renegades were able to score three runs to post a target of 143.

Chasing 143, Stars could score only 108 in 20 overs and lost the game by 34 runs. Former Australian wicket keeper batsman was of the opinion that the leggie should have warned Rogers before attempting the runout. He was shocked by the incident that happened on the pitch.

On air, he said:

“Must’ve warned him. I reckon Zampa was dirty from the ball before when Rogers got in and out and got Harvey on strike. Didn’t think we were gonna see it (attempted in the BBL), to be honest.”

However, another Australian, Brad Hogg took to Twitter to speak about the advantage taken by Rogers. He said:

“How can one say Rogers is not taking advantage? He has left the crease before the bowler has reached his normal release point. Completed bowling action or not it’s out. Zampa well in his right. One thing is for sure, this runout will ignite the fire for the rest of the tournament and coming domestic and global tournaments.”
