‘Aggression of Kohli, batting talent of Ramesh Powar’- Riyan Parag trolled hard after another poor performance against Gujarat in IPL 2023

Rajasthan Royals came on top of the points table after beating defending champions Gujarat Titans by 3 wickets on Sunday at the Narendra Modi Stadium.

The Royals put in an outstanding display with both bat and ball to get the better of Gujarat. They restricted Gujarat Titans to 177 runs in the first innings, thanks to a combined effort from the bowlers.

The Royals didn’t allow Gujarat to stitch big partnership, which didn’t allow to them to reach close to 200. Sandeep Sharma was outstanding for his spell of 2 for 25, while the likes of Zampa and Chahal returned with a wicket each.

Nevertheless, it was still a competitive score to chase down and to add to their misery, both Buttler and Jaiswal went back to the hut for 0 and 1 respectively. After 9 overs, Rajasthan had scored 47 runs for the loss of 3 wickets.

However, Sanju Samson (60 off 32) and Shimron Hetmyer (56 off 26) then played outstanding knocks with the bat in the second half of the innings to take Rajasthan Royals home in 19.2 overs.

With that win, Rajasthan now have 4 wins to their name in 5 matches and are looking a strong contender to reach the playoffs. Having said that, there are a few issues that they need to resolve and Riyan Parag’s form is, definitely, one of them.

A guy who has oodles of talent, Parag hasn’t live up to the expectations this year as well. In the last match against Gujarat, he, once again, failed to hit the strap, getting out after making his 5 runs. In the four matches that he has batted so far, his scored read: 7, 20, 7, and 5.

The fans have been trolling him right, left and centre for his poor performance. Ahead of the start of the tournament, he had predicted that he would hit four sixes in an over this season. However, given the kind of form he is in, it would now be hard to secure a place in the playing XI.

At some point Rajasthan Royals will stop backing Riyan Parag. The question is when.

Parag is not Russell, SKY, or Shaw, who have excellent records, and hence need to be backed if they fail while taking risks in a high-risk format.

Parag has a SR of 124 and an economy of 10.70.
