The Apex Cricket Council has introduced a new rule in one-day international and T20 international cricket for smooth conduct in the games. The rule has been introduced and will be tested from December 20 23 to May 20 24 in international Cricket before it gets implemented.

As per the Apex Cricket Council, a new role of stop clock has been introduced in the recent board meeting after the conclusion of the ODI World Cup 2023, which will impose a five-run penalty at the third fault on the bowling team if they take longer than 60 seconds to bowl the next over.

“The CEC agreed to introduce a stop clock on a trial basis in men’s ODI and T20I cricket from December 2023 to April 2024. The clock will be used to regulate the amount of time taken between overs. If the bowling team is not ready to bowl the next over within 60 seconds of the previous over being completed, a 5-run penalty will be imposed the third time it happens in an innings,” said a recent statement by the Apex Cricket Council.

“Changes to the pitch and outfield monitoring regulations were also approved, including a simplification of the criteria against which a pitch is assessed and increasing the threshold for when a venue could have its international status removed from five demerit points to six demerit points over five years,” the statement added.

Greg Barclay thanked the Indian cricket board for a phenomenal run of the ODI World Cup 2023

“We are delighted with the success of the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023, which has been the biggest Cricket World Cup ever. The event has been the most attended ICC World Cup ever with records shattered across broadcast and digital showcasing the support and interest for the one-day game”, said Greg Barclay

“I’d like to thank the Board of Control for Cricket in India for delivering a World Cup that was a true celebration of the best all-round cricket experience that brought fans closer to the action than ever before. Thank you must also go to the Match Officials and the ICC staff for delivering a world-class global cricket event”, he added.
